The Truth About Tariffs & What It Means for Your Closet

Fashion lovers, it’s time to talk about something that affects every single item you buy—whether you realize it or not.

Starting May 2nd, the U.S. government will suspend the De Minimis $800 exemption, meaning all shipments from China to the U.S. will be subject to tariffs and taxes. Apparel and jewelry, in particular, are seeing staggering increases—up to 165%–200% in import duties. These changes don’t just impact big brands; they directly affect you, the customer.

What This Means for Your Wallet

Let’s be clear—tariffs don’t just hurt businesses, they impact you at checkout. When companies import goods at higher costs, they pass those expenses directly to shoppers through price hikes. Brands that rely on overseas manufacturing—whether it’s in China, Vietnam, or Cambodia—now face massive cost increases, and that pricing trickles down into everything from boutique finds to big-name fashion labels.

Some companies have started adding tariff fees as a separate charge at checkout so you can see exactly what you're paying for. Others simply increase product prices to absorb the added costs. Either way, you’re paying for these tariffs whether you know it or not.

How We’re Responding

At Hamilton & Co, we’ve been ahead of this curve. Over the past few weeks, we've removed all overseas products from our collection, expanded our selection of items that ship from the U.S., and started adding more Made in the U.S.A. brands to ensure stable pricing for our customers.

Here’s the good news:
🚚 Products shipped from within the U.S. are NOT affected by these tariffs.
No hidden fees. No surprise markups. No extra tariff charges.
🛍️ Quality selections from brands that prioritize domestic fulfillment.

As of right now, if an item in our boutique ships from our U.S. warehouse, these tariffs DO NOT apply. That means faster shipping times, more reliable pricing, and no unexpected costs at checkout.

Why This Matters

We believe you deserve to shop with confidence, knowing where your products come from and how pricing is affected. That’s why we’re committed to transparency and making intentional shifts to focus on American-shipped and Made in the U.S.A. selections.

Fashion shouldn’t come with hidden fees. And when you shop with us, it won’t!

Keep an eye out for even more U.S.-shipped and domestically made brands coming soon. Let’s shop smarter—together!
